As a leading global law firm, Eversheds Sutherland endeavors to bring our purpose and values to life – “helping our clients, our people and our communities to thrive” – which we believe are all interconnected. Eversheds Sutherland understands that law students nowadays are facing intense competition in joining the legal industry. Students from less privileged backgrounds could encounter even more challenges in developing their legal career, such as gaining access to different resources or opportunities to legal internships.
Supporting talented law students from underprivileged backgrounds
Eversheds Sutherland Hong Kong Student Award aims to support talented undergraduate law students from underprivileged backgrounds in Hong Kong by providing financial support and work experience in the legal industry in their first year of legal studies. We hope to help them unleash their potential and discover the possibilities in their legal career.
During my two-week internship with the Banking team, I had the invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience by reviewing policies and clauses under the guidance and expertise of my team. Everyone was exceptionally welcoming and generous with their time, answering my questions and joining me for coffee chats that helped clarify my doubts and supported my growth in pursuing a legal career. Through the tasks assigned and my interactions with partners and associates, I was able to sharpen my analytical skills and develop a deeper understanding of the practical aspects of banking law. This experience has not only inspired me to strive for excellence but also encouraged me to approach challenges with greater confidence.
City University of Hong Kong
This program has truly been a valuable opportunity for us to learn, grow and connect. Over the two-week internship, I gained practical experience in preparing legal documents and developed a deeper understanding of the work of legal professionals. What impressed me the most was the culture of the firm, everyone was always willing to share their insights and experiences, which provided me with inspiration for my legal journey. Working in this law firm for two weeks has strengthened my aspiration to become a professional lawyer, and I am genuinely grateful for this opportunity.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong
My internship at Eversheds Sutherland as a first-year law student has been an invaluable introduction to the legal profession. I gained practical insights into arbitration cases, observed the inclusive and open dynamics of an international firm, and contributed to multiple research tasks that deepened my understanding of legal research and client service. Everyone in the office has been amazingly approachable and supportive. The experience has indeed impacted me a step forward in my legal journey.
