Our lawyers advise major and boutique asset managers alike, service providers, custodians, depositaries, fund administrators, insurance companies, wealth managers, corporates, pension funds, institutional investors and banks. Because we have such a broad practice, and such a wide range of clients, we’re not working in a silo, and whatever form of financial services you’re in, we’ll put this broad experience to work for you.
We’re in regular communication with regulators across different jurisdictions, and have the kind of close, constructive relationships with them that will help your business thrive. We’ll tell you what’s coming next, including new regulatory or legislative developments that are still in the works.
Beyond the regulations themselves we can provide you with a ‘heads up’ and clear, succinct summaries of emerging regulatory priorities, consultation papers, new ideas, or new types of fund and advisory services as they emerge. We know you’re busy, and this is the kind of burden we can lift off your shoulders. Our lawyers are thought leaders, and sit on several financial services bodies and trade associations - we know the industry inside out.
We’re team-orientated, approachable and nimble in how we work, and once we’ve established a small, dedicated legal team with the sector knowledge to suit your needs, they’ll stick with you. We take the time to really understand your products. Our clients see us as an extension of their in-house team, and that’s how we like it - as partners to your business. It’s not just one memo or one deal: it’s an ongoing relationship.
Our lawyers have experience across a wide range of financial services regulation, including advising:
- management companies (including AIFMs), investment managers and investment managers on their respective regulatory obligations, agreements (including service level agreements), distribution and marketing requirements and shareholder arrangements
- on the re-organization of a major bank’s depositary business from the UK, Ireland and Luxembourg and to a branch of an Irish entity, including UK, Irish and Luxembourg advice, FCA applications and re-papering of all client documentation including managing the foreign registrations of most of the bank’s clients in Europe, which were marketed in 50 jurisdictions globally
- asset management companies on regulatory attitudes of financial services regulators to blockchain and crypto assets across 100 jurisdictions
- a European financial services regulator with obtaining advice on setting up a sandbox (sometimes also referred to as a “Reglab” or “incubator”), in seven jurisdictions
- a number of financial institutions on change of control requirements, including making the relevant filings, most recently a global investment management company in 52 countries
“The team has been professional, prompt, and knowledgeable in assisting us to connect with outside counsel abroad and obtain opinions to conduct business in the desired countries. I have full confidence in the team’s ability to handle our requests, and they do so by providing exceptional client service. I would strongly recommend their services to other firms.”
“The turnaround times are excellent. The level of detail is exactly as we require, neither too much nor too little. Our requests are fully met and the response is well structured. They provide full project management around the projects to give us the confidence that everything is on track and deadlines are met.”
